New Pattern Reasoning: Quiz

Directions (1-5): Study the following information carefully and answer the given questions:

Lalit, Gopal, Mahesh, Nitin, Deepak, Tarun, Ashish and Vishnu are sitting around a circular table at equal distance between each other, but not necessarily in the same order. Some of the persons are facing the center while some others are facing outside (i.e. in a direction opposite to the center.)
(Note: Same direction means that if one person is facing the center then the other person is also facing the center and vice versa. Opposite direction means that if one person is facing the center then the other person is facing outside and vice versa.)
Deepak sits second to the right of Ashish. Ashish faces the center. Gopal sits third to the left of Deepak. Deepak and Gopal face opposite directions. Immediate neighbors Gopal faces the center. Mahesh sits second to the right of Gopal. Vishnu sits on the immediate left of Mahesh. Lalit sits second to the left of Nitin. Nitin faces the same direction as Gopal. Nitin is not an immediate neighbor of Ashish. Immediate neighbors of Deepak face opposite directions (i.e opposite directions means if one neighbor faces the center the other neighbor faces outside and vice versa).

Q1. Four of the following five are alike in a certain way based on the given seating arrangement and so form a group. Who is the one that does not belong to that group?
(a) Vishnu
(b) Tarun
(c) Mahesh
(d) Lalit
(e) Nitin
Q2. Who sits second to the left of Vishnu?
(a) Ashish
(b) Gopal
(c) Tarun
(d) Other than those given as options
(e) Mahesh
Q3. Which of the following is true regarding Tarun as per the given seating arrangement?
(a) Vishnu is one of the immediate neighbors
(b) Tarun sits third to the right of Deepak
(c) Tarun faces the center
(d) Only two persons sits between Tarun and Ashish.
(e) Only one person sit between Tarun and Lalit?
Q4. What is Mahesh’s position with respect to Lalit?
(a) Second to the left
(b) Second to the right
(c) Third to the right
(d) Third to the left
(e) Fourth to the left
Q5. How many persons in the given arrangement face outside?
(a) Three
(b) Two
(c) Four
(d) Five
(e) One

Directions (6 – 10): Following questions are based on the five three-digit numbers given below:
369 717 922 625 434
Q6. If all the numbers are arranged in ascending order from left to right, which of the following will be the product of the first and last digits of the number which is in the middle in the new arrangements?
(a) 16
(b) 30
(c) 27
(d) 49
(e) 18
Q7. If the positions of the first and third digits of each of the number interchange, what will be the sum of all the digits of the second lowest number?
(a) 13
(b) 15
(c) 16
(d) 11
(e) 20
Q8. If one is subtracted from each odd digit and two is added to each even digit of each of the numbers, what will be the difference between the third digit and the first digit of the lowest number?
(a) Zero
(b) 6
(c) 4
(d) 2
(e) 5
Q9. What will be the resultant if the first digit of the highest number is divided by the third digit of the lowest number?
(a) 0.5
(b) 1
(c) 2
(d) 2.2
(e) None of these
Q10. If all the digits in each of the numbers are arranged in descending order within the number from left to right, which of the following will be the second highest number in the new arrangement
(a) 369
(b) 717
(c) 922
(d) 625
(e) None of these

Solutions:

1.(d)
2.(c)
3.(c)
4.(b)
5.(b)
6.(b)
exactly middle- 625 after arranging in the ascending order
Product of the first and the last digit of 625= 6×5= 30
7.(d)
434 is the second lowest number after arranging the first and last digit of each of the numbers
Sum of all digits= 4 + 3 + 4 = 11
8.(b)
288 is the lowest one
Required difference = 8 – 2 = 6
9.(b)
first digit of the highest number = 9
Third digit of the lowest number = 9
So 9/9 = 1
10.(c)
922 is the second highest number after arranging the digits in descending order.
