1. Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Flags off Navika Sagar Parikrama
Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Hon’ble Raksha Mantri flagged-off Indian Naval Sailing Vessel Tarini (INSV Tarini) with an all women crew from INS Mandovi boat pool, Goa.
  • This is the first-ever Indian circumnavigation of the globe by an all-women crew and shall attempt to circumnavigate the globe on Indian Navy’s sailing vessel INSV Tarini.
  • The crew is expected to return to Goa in April 2018, on completion of the voyage.
  • The expedition will be covered in five legs, with stop-overs at 4 ports viz. Fremantle (Australia), Lyttleton (New Zealand), Port Stanley (Falklands), and Cape Town (South Africa).

2. Telangana Home Minister inaugurates water ATMs
Safe Water Network, an international NGO has partnered with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to launch water ATMs, providing affordable, 24x7 safe water access in Hyderabad.
  • The first of the ATMs was inaugurated by Telangana State Home Minister N Narasimha Reddy at Nalgonda X Roads.
  • A total of 200 ATMs will be set up to reach a targetted 150,000 people. In the first phase 50 water ATMs will be operationalised by next year.
Points to Remember
  • Telangana is one of the 29 states in India, located in southern India. It was formed on 2 June 2014 as the youngest state in India.
  • It is the twelfth largest state in India, and the twelfth most populated state in India.
  • K. Chandrashekar Rao is the Chief Minister while E. S. L. Narasimhan is the Governor of Telangana.
  • Hyderabad is the Capital of Telangana.

Assam enacts Industrial Disputes (Assam Amendment) Bill 2017
On 7th September 2017, Assam passed the Industrial Disputes (Assam Amendment) Bill, 2017, regarding lay off of employees, in Guwahati.
Industrial Disputes Assam Amendment Bill, 2017:
i.The law enables employers to lay off up to 300 employees without prior permission from the government.
ii.The employee count has been increased from 100 to 300.
iii.The law is said to increase the ease of doing business. As, employers are hesitant to recruit more number of employees because when the employee count increases more than 100, there would be problems during lay off.
iv.The Government has decided to increase the compensation of a labourer from the current 15 days salary to up to 60 days salary.

MoS Jitendra Singh to inaugurate North East Calling festival in New Delhi
Minister of State in the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jitendra Singh will inaugurate the “North East Calling” festival in New Delhi on 9th of Sept. 2017.
Key Points:
i.The two-day event is being organised by the Ministry of DoNER under its Destination North East series for this year.
ii.The purpose of the event is to promote the art, culture, heritage, cuisine, handicrafts, business and tourism of North East India.
iii.Dr Jitendra Singh has also launched ‘North East Venture Fund’, which is a joint initiative of Ministry of DoNER and North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd.

21st GST Council meet in Hyderabad
On 9th September 2017, the 21st meeting of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council was held at Hyderabad International Convention Centre, in Hyderabad.
GST Council Meet:
1.      This is the first time the GST Council met after filing of GST returns.
2.      The meet was headed by Finance Minister Mr.Arun Jaitley. Finance Ministers of all states attended the meet.

Mongolian lawmakers have voted to dismiss the Prime Minister and his Cabinet for alleged incompetence and corruption related to the signing of government contracts with companies linked to three Cabinet members.
  • A majority of lawmakers from the ruling Mongolian People's Party joined members of the opposition to pass the motion demanding that Prime Minister Jargaltulga Erdenebat and his 14-month-old Cabinet resign over the granting of contracts worth 328 million US Dollars.
  • The MPP controls 65 seats in the 76 member Great Hural, with the opposition Democratic Party and independents sharing the remainder. Out of 73 lawmakers present during the voting, 33 from the MPP and nine opposition and independent lawmakers voted for the dismissal.
  • Parliament is expected appoint a new Cabinet and Prime Minister in 45 days, and the current officials will continue serving in the interim.

“JIGYASA” – Student-Scientist connect programme launched
On July 6, 2017, ‘JIGYASA’, a student- scientist connect programme was officially launched in New DelhiCouncil of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) to implement this programme.
i. MoU signing ceremony was held in the presence of Dr. Harsh Vardhan – Minister of Science & Technology, Earth Sciences, Environment, Forests and Climate Change and Mr. Prakash Javadekar – Minister of Human Resource Development. 
ii. Focus of ‘JIGYASA’ programme is to connect school students and scientists so as to extend student’s classroom learning with that of a very well planned research laboratory based learning.

President Ram Nath Kovind lays foundation stone for Link-4 of SAUNI Scheme
On 4th September 2017, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind, President of India laid the foundation for Link-4 pipeline canal of SAUNI Scheme at Jasdan in Rajkot district of Gujarat.
SAUNI Scheme
i. Saurashtra Narmada Avataran Irrigation (SAUNI) Scheme was conceived by Mr. Narendra Modi when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
ii. This project aims to fill up 115 dams of 11 districts of Saurashtra by overflowing water from Sardar Sarovar Dam on Narmada River by a web of 1126 km long pipeline network.
iii. The unique feature of this project is making pipe canals instead of conventional open canals which leads requires no acquisition of land and involves less water loss.

Swiss president Doris Leuthard is on a three-day visit to India
Swiss president Doris Leuthard will begin her three day visit to India on August 30 2017. She will be received gladly by India’s president Ram nath govind and PM Narendra Modi. These talks will strengthen bilateral ties and it will ramp up trade and investment ties.
Issues to be discussed in the meet: – 
i) The visit is significant as Switzerland is the chair of the Nuclear Suppliers Groupwhere India has been seeking membership.
ii) Both countries will sign trade agreements and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on railway infrastructure.
iii) India and Switzerland will try having new investment protection agreement.

Government approves first phase of Army reforms
On 30th august ,2017, The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approved implementation of the first phase of recommendations of Shekatkar Committee. This committee was formed to recommend measures to enhance combat capability and rebalancing Defence Expenditure of the Armed Forces with an aim to increase “teeth to tail ratio”, It had given 99 recommendations to the government on December 2016, out of which the Ministry of Defence has decided to implement 65 suggestions in phased manner.

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams which is the famous temple of Lord Venkateswara and of the richest Hindu temple in India has deposited 2,780 kg of gold with State Bank of India under long term deposit schemeannounced on 29th Aug 2017.

Arun Jaitley hands over LRSAM to Indian Navy

Jammu and Kashmir government to set up Eco-Park in Rajouri district
The Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to set up an Eco-Park on over 34 acres of land retrieve from encroachers in the state’s Rajouri district announced on 25th of Aug 2017.

i.The park is a first-of-its-kind project in the region. It will have a botanical garden, a cactus garden, a cafeteria and other amenities.

Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik has inaugurated grid connected roof top solar programme to encourage the public participation to harness renewable energy.

Supreme Court rules Right to Privacy as Fundamental Right
On August 24, 2017 The Supreme Court (SC) ruled that privacy is a fundamental right because it is essential to the right to life.
i.A nine-judge Supreme Court bench declared privacy is a fundamental right that may impact everything from the government’s signature Aadhaar programme to civil liberty, rights to collection and use of personal data by Internet and financial firms. The decision can also impact restrictions on right to convert and choice of food.
ii.Chief Justice JS Khehar informed that ruled privacy was part of the fundamental right to life and personal liberty guaranteed to all citizens under Article 21 of the Constitution.
iv.The judgment will have a crucial bearing on the government’s Aadhaar scheme that collects personal details, biometrics to identify beneficiaries for accessing social benefits and government welfare scheme.
